Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 24, 2026

Fair Rating ("the extension") is a browser extension that adjusts the displayed rating of businesses on Google Maps to account for reviews removed under German defamation law. This page explains exactly what data the extension handles.

What data we collect

None. The extension does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data, browsing history, identifiers, or analytics of any kind.

What data we process locally

While you are on a Google Maps page, the extension reads the following information from the page you are currently viewing, in your browser only:

This data never leaves your device. It is used solely to compute the adjusted rating badge that the extension draws on the page.

What we store locally

The extension uses the chrome.storage.sync API to save one preference: the assumed star value for removed reviews (0, 1, 2, or 3). This is stored by Chrome and, if you are signed in to Chrome, synced across your own devices. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party.

What we do NOT do

Permissions

The extension requests the storage permission (to save the assumed-star preference locally) and access to google.com/maps, google.de/maps, and related Google Search pages (to read the rating and inject the adjusted-rating badge on those pages only). It does not run on any other website.

Children's privacy

The extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Open source

The extension is open source. You can inspect every line of code at github.com/Ennui92/fair-rating-extension.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the "last updated" date at the top will be revised. If the extension is ever modified to collect or transmit user data, this policy will be updated before that change is published.
